ABOUT NANCY
Nancy Clifford, M.A.
Certified MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) Practitioner
Career and Life Coach, Strengths Specialist, Writer
BACKGROUND
My passion is helping people understand themselves in deep, insightful ways that promote healing, growth, and transformation. I’ve been really good at reading people since I was young. You could call me a People Whisperer…I get to know someone quickly (I’m a published writer with a journalist’s questioning style) and they always feel like I GET THEM, by shining the light on how they see themselves.
Add to this my humor and more natural role as a collaborator and the result is a relaxed, safe, fun sharing environment, whether we talk together by phone/Skype/FaceTime.
You will discover that a significant amount of stress can be immediately reduced by our addressing a phenomenon known as “type falsification” - a situation in which your temperament and strengths clash with the specific ways you currently live and work.
MY STORY
Since I was a teen, I’ve had to invest extra time on self-care and also battle the pain, fatigue, anxiety and depression that fibromyalgia (a progressive disease) inflicts. It forced me to learn how to balance my work and personal life and, in turn, relate to others as they negotiate challenging transitions.
As the parent of a child in longer-term recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, my husband and I have been participating members of a Caron Foundation Parent Support Group. In this group, we learn how to overcome co-dependency, remove stigma about the disease, and support those in the recovery world.
CREDENTIALS
Always interested in how people develop and adapt, I see limitless potential in every person I meet. I graduated from Cornell University with a BS in Human Development and Family Studies, and an MA in Student Personnel Administration. In 1987, I became a Certified MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) Practitioner by APT, Association for Psychological Type and over the years have developed a nearly pitch-perfect ear for the Voice in which clients speak their truth.
I’ve gained knowledge about issues of advocacy, having completed graduate coursework in Widener University’s Center for Social Work Education. I am a gentle facilitator yet powerful advocate who persuades people to feel good about their most cherished, innate talents and to bring that authenticity into their lives.
As a published author with training in Memoir Writing from The Muse Center for the Literary Arts (Chestnut Hill, PA) and The Creative Living Room (Swarthmore, PA), I use narrative coaching techniques to help people use strengths and “story” to bring wellness to their lives. For anyone undergoing a major transition, but especially those individuals and families in recovery, the sacred process of elevating stories that honor resilience is transformative.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Throughout my thirty plus years of counseling and coaching, my clinical practice goals have remained constant with a focus on self-esteem, personal growth, identity, transition, reinvention, and empowerment.
I have served as a Life Coach at The Middleton Center for Pastoral Care and Counseling at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr, PA and at Building Bridges: A Center for Healing and Change in Media, PA. I gained expertise in building on a client’s natural competence by developing a team approach to coaching in collaboration with referring practitioners. I continue to receive referrals from therapists, psychiatrists, physicians, and addiction counselors and also serve as a consultant on wellness issues.
